Further details: Self Catering Accommodation in Ireland at a Victorian country home built in 1866 located in the heart of the Irish Midlands in County Westmeath and only 1 hour from Dublin city and airport. Set in 15 acres of exotic gardens and stunning woodlands Coolatore House was built on the sacred hill Cnoc Aiste which was a spiritual and historical site dating back thousands of years.

Approached by a private drive Coolatore House is exquisitely designed with long spacious halls, wide balconies and vaulted ceilings. Among some of the rooms are a comfortable library, a grand dining room, cavernous living room and a homely country kitchen complete with an aga range. There is a well stocked playroom for all ages.

The grandeur of each room lends to stunning views of manicured lawns and marvellous views across the lush countryside. The entire house is furnished with a fantastic collection of antiques and the whole house reflects history and times past albeit with the warmth and comfort of modern living and timeless tranquillity.

The seclusion of the estate has attracted writers and musicians such as Irish writer, poet and Nobel prize winner Seamus Heaney, Artist Michael Jackson, Irish Singer Songwriter Paddy Casey, Irelands renowned TV presenter Gay Byrne among others. Coolatore is Failte approved and is perfect for a break away with family, friends and a weekend gathering.

Historically a place of great interest Coolatore has seen many owners over the centuries and has been used for many activities. It was built by Arthur Upton, pioneer of Irish motoring and is associated with the hero of Irish history Napper Tandy. In the 1980s Coolatore was once the most fashionable places to stay in Ireland when run as a country inn.

Coolatore is part of the Grouse Lodge Estate which is home to the world famous residential recording studio. Guests of Coolatore are very welcome to use the 45-foot indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna - a mere three minutes walk from the house.

Leave your world and enter ours to soak up the Irish welcome, ancient history and be the Lord of the Manor for a short while - the perfect holiday destination.
