The original tower house at Knappogue Castle was constructed in 1467 by Sean MacNamara and is situated on magnificent grounds overlooking a picturesque and tranquil countryside. The castle was purchased in 1966 by the Hon. Mark Edwin Andrews of Houston Texas. He and his wife (a prominent American architect), in collaboration with Shannon Development, carried out an extensive and sensitive restoration returning the Castle to its former 15th Century glory.
In an area rich in historical sites, Knappogue Castle in Co Clare, combines luxury rental accommodation with the heritage of Ireland's turbulent past. The castle, which was originally built in 1467 by Sean Mac-Con McNamara and contains additions from the 18th and 19th centuries, provides luxury accommodation in a self-contained private apartment.The Andrews were the last occupants of the Castle and spent a great deal of money restoring the private apartment in the Castle, as their private residence. This apartment which accommodates ten people, is furnished to the highest standards and includes a baby grand piano, small office space and includes a full Irish Breakfast each day.
