Chateau d’Archambault is located in Burgundy, by the river Serein, in the pretty hamlet of Cours, less than a kilometre from the mediaeval city of Noyers-Sur-Serein. It was built around 1800 on the site of a fortified farm as a hunting lodge before being transformed into a Chateau by M. Masson a chef of Napoleon III.
Chateau d’Archambault has been completely restored and recently redecorated and furnished in a beautiful eclectic style. The ground floor is spacious well organised and bright with mainly original parquet and stone floors and four large, interrelated reception rooms. There are 10 bedrooms, nearly all with en suite facilities, a library, media and utility rooms. The outbuildings include a 16 metres long wine cellar, gallery, barn, orangery and dovecote.
The 3.4 hectare grounds of Chateau d’Archambault are serene with: an avenue of chestnut trees; stone walls; flower beds in a 19th century water feature; French garden; park; meadow; and contemporary sculptures.
Chateau d’Archambault is ideal for: groups of family and friends; group activities (the Grand Salon lends itself to use by choirs, yoga, parties, small concerts and performances); food and wine lovers (Noyers has six restaurants in summer and superb burgundy specialities and vegetables can be sourced locally); a base for cycling: visiting historic burgundy (the Unesco heritage sites of Vezelay and Abbey de Fontenay are nearby); a base for walking: and, visiting Paris or Dijon (Paris is just two hours away by car or TGV and the train schedules allow for relaxed day trips to the capital).
