Schloss Ottmanach
Listing Description
A 1000 YEAR OLD BAROQUE SCHLOSS IN THE WILDS OF CARINTHIA
First mentioned in a document from Emperor Otto II in 980 as a royal residence named Otmanica, the Schloss acquired its present day elegant Baroque façade and classic Hapsburg yellow livery in the eighteenth century.
The landscaped gardens and terraces are adorned with ornate eighteenth century statues of Greek gods and goddesses, which then drop down to an enormous swimming pool and fountain – dramatically set against the magical backdrop of the Karawanken mountains to the South.
The gardens, home to an important collection of English roses, fruit trees ,riotous flower borders, rare fauna, birds and butterflies, are garlanded by ten acres of parkland where horses graze in paddocks.
